The clamp holds tight on my 1.5-inch desk edge and hasn't budged, even with a monitor and a couple of books stacked on top. I've got my notebooks and pens off the desktop now, and the extra shelf didn't cost me any floor space at all.
My desk corner was chaos before this, but the clamp mounted in under ten minutes and now my monitor sits on the top shelf with room for files below. The grip feels rock-solid even when I lean on it, and I love that it frees up my floor completely.
Took me an afternoon to rearrange my whole setup, but now my monitor, printer, and a stack of notebooks all live on this clamped shelf without touching the floor. The install was straightforward since it grips the desk edge tightly, and the extra surface freed up my actual work area completely.
